Where was did you get married?

We decided on Cairns Church in Milngavie, Glasgow, then had our reception at Duntreath Castle, Blanefield.

What was the most important thing you wanted to have for your wedding day?

It would have to be the location at the church. It is my family church where my granny and grandpa were a part of the congregation for many years. My parents were married there and I was christened there. My granny died just after we got engaged, my grandpa died some time ago. My fiancée managed to arrange with her, before she was unwell the main diamond in my ring which is from her, so I wanted the venue to be extra special and include her in some way. Our family church was the perfect place.

How did you personalise your day?

My mother-in-law made bunting with my Scottish family tartan. There was a treats table with all our favorite goodies, as well as a midnight snack of fish finger sandwiches. We had a Ceilidh band. Going outside of tradition, I also did a speech. The table names were my favorite animal collective nouns for example a crash of rhinos, a journey of giraffes.

Describe your experience of buying your wedding dress?

Absolutely wonderful! I was worried the sample sizes would be too small for me but the ladies in the shop were so clever. I felt so excited and very overwhelmed.

Did you know as soon as you stepped into your gown it was the one or did you take your time?

It was a little small, so I came out of the changing room saying ooh this is a bit small, then all my family gasped when they saw it! Then I saw myself in the mirror & teared up.

Anya Bridal in Whickham, Southampton.

Which dress did you choose?

The Ronald Joyce Lexey gown. It is a satin A-line dress with a beaded tulle bodice, thin shoulder straps and a back button detailing and a beaded waistband.

Anything else you would like to share about your wedding?

It was the most amazing day. I felt so overwhelmed with love and happiness that everybody was there for us.

Any tips for future brides?

Pinterest is your friend, but it can be quite overwhelming. It takes time to work out what is right for you; ideas often formed late at night. Be sure to practice your kiss. You will most definitely want to invest in a good photographer. Utilise your friends and family’s skills, it may seem like you can do it all on your own but trust me you will want their help. I struggled with the vision of the marquee, I’m not very creative so my best friend and bridesmaid were invaluable at helping me.
